The name itself is a mystery the local people sub-tribe from Kilema of Marangu tribe refers to it as Kilemakyaroo (Meaning, ‘that which can not be conquered!) The ancestors from Wachagga tribes who lived on the slope of Kilimanjaro were doing rituals up on the mountain and believed there lived an angry god who will punish any un-holy person who try climb it. due to the lack of mountain gears with that Arctic like cold many died on the way during the trip up to the mountain for ritual purposes and for that reason the belief spread allover the place of an angry god who killed people and called the mountain KILEMAKYAROO (THAT WHICH CAN’T BE CONQUERED). The mountain, by any name, is a metaphor for the compelling beauty of East Africa. Once you see it, you understand why!.
